![]() Let’s begin with Wes, our protagonist and narrator. ![]() I like the premise of the story (I’m a sucker for road trip stories), but what the book fails isn’t the plot– it’s the characters. I mean, the formula for The Haters is a lot like any book– two quirky teens meet a mysterious girl, and adventure inevitably ensues. The difference between these two authors, though, is that Green actually makes it work. My thoughts: As you may recall in my last review of John Green’s Turtles All The Way Down, I said that Green played into a lot of stereotypes of his previous books– and now, I would like to amend, young adult fiction in general. What follows involves a grumpy nurse at a CVS who turns out maybe not to be so bad, a bartender with a voice of gold, a billionaire who has messed up Ash’s life, a mansion in Mississippi, and lots more–all in Jesse Andrews’ latest book The Haters. ![]() ![]() So when they meet a girl named Ash who suggests that the three of them ditch camp and go on a tour, they jump at the chance. Here’s a brief overview of the plot: Best friends Wes and Corey have landed themselves at Bill Garabedian’s Jazz Giants of Tomorrow Intensive Summer Workshops, and, even at the start of the first day, they can already tell it sucks. Hi readers! It’s actually been a bit colder than usual for October where I live, so I hope you’re staying warm! Today I’m reviewing The Haters by Jesse Andrews. ![]()
